Thato Mahapa
Thato Mahapa is an experienced lawyer who specialises in ICT law, Corporate and Contract Law and Family Law. He holds an LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand. He has gained valuable experience working at senior levels in both the private and public sectors. His past roles include stints at the national regulator, ICASA (Independent Communications Authority of South Africa, a digital media company, On Digital Media (TopTV) and a Telecommunications company with a large footprint in Africa, Smile Communications.
Mr Mahapa focused on Licensing and Compliance, Regulatory Drafting and Legislative Reviews as well as Executive Stakeholder management, amongst the many roles. His various roles covered South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Nigeria and Regional bodies representing either the company or the Republic at Regional and International level. He was also appointed by the President of the Republic to become a board member of the Media Development and Diversity Agency (the MDDA). He also sat on the board of the South African Communications Forum (the SACF) from May 2014 to April 2015. Following his admission as a Legal Practitioner, he established and continues to lead TM Mahapa INC since June 2019.
In 2023, Mr. Mahapa successfully completed the Conveyancing and Notarial practice exams, leading to his admission as a Conveyancer and Notary Public of the High Court of South Africa. Throughout this process, he received guidance and mentorship from Ms. Maseko of Maseko Nondumiso INC attorneys.
